In this episode, Jonathan Keir talks with Kieran Durkin about his research on the Marxist Humanist Tradition and its contemporary relevance. Kieran Durkin, who holds a PhD from the University of Glasgow, joined the department as an Associate Lecturer in 2017. In 2018, he was awarded a three-year Marie Skłodowska-Curie Global Fellowship, which allowed him to spend two years as a Visiting Fellow at the University of California, Santa Barbara, before returning to the University of York in 2021. His book, The Radical Humanism of Erich Fromm, explores the intersections of Marxist thought, critical theory, and humanist philosophy.
